runit

Anyone using 'runit' ?  Any interest?  Can a 55-second boot time be possible?  Haven't clocked mine, but am pretty sure it's about two minutes.

This artcle introduces the subject, nicely.

Re: runit

I boot to console in about 17 seconds.
Into X, under ratpoison, it's about 25 seconds

Re: runit

Two minutes is incredibly slow, not only with arch, also with a not-updated debian stable running all the services one can imagine.
55 secs is normal for the mentioned debian os, very slow for arch.

Re: runit

...about 15 seconds for me to console, then another 8 seconds getting into X running xfce4.  That's leaves 55 seconds certainly reasonable, and a bit slow compared to what I'm getting now.  Of course, I don't run many services.

Re: runit

When I was using Suse 10.0 which, incidentally, takes an eternity  to boot, I achieved significant gains in boot time using InitNG.
