[solved] i3 : icons on i3bar

Hi to everyone : I am sure there are solved posts about this , but I figure can't get up .
Trying to make work icons to the i3bar , I've downloaded  https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/font-awesome/ ( is it possible that just 2 days ago the https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/ttf- … mments=all was flagged outdated ? ) , extracted ,  and makepkg -s ( not in the fonts folder ) , and install with

sudo pacman -U font-awesome-4.7.0-2-any.pkg.tar.xz

.

I'm  using conky on i3bar : these are the config files

~/.config/i3/config

# This file has been auto-generated by i3-config-wizard(1).
# It will not be overwritten, so edit it as you like.
#
# Should you change your keyboard layout some time, delete
# this file and re-run i3-config-wizard(1).
#

# i3 config file (v4)
#
# Please see http://i3wm.org/docs/userguide.html for a complete reference!

set $mod Mod4

# Font for window titles. Will also be used by the bar unless a different font
# is used in the bar {} block below.
font pango:monospace 8

# This font is widely installed, provides lots of unicode glyphs, right-to-left
# text rendering and scalability on retina/hidpi displays (thanks to pango).
#font pango:DejaVu Sans Mono 8

# Before i3 v4.8, we used to recommend this one as the default:
# font -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--13-120-75-75-C-70-iso10646-1
# The font above is very space-efficient, that is, it looks good, sharp and
# clear in small sizes. However, its unicode glyph coverage is limited, the old
# X core fonts rendering does not support right-to-left and this being a bitmap
# font, it doesn’t scale on retina/hidpi displays.

If I try to copy and paste a icon from http://fontawesome.io/cheatsheet/ , nor writing the unicode , does not work for me ( using xfce-terminal and nano , typing the code after pressing Ctrl+Shift+u ) .
I am not sure if I correctly install the fonts too ( have I to copy and paste a directory elsewhere ? ) , or where I'd make the mistake .
Thanks in advance , and sorry if the problem is already solved in others threads .

Re: [solved] i3 : icons on i3bar

You should remove that 'font pango' line from conkyrc file.
If you want to use another font in conky status you'll have to use pango markup. Like this:

{"full_text" : "<span foreground='\#00e699' font='Ubuntu Condensed 7'>${blahblah}</span>", "markup": "pango"},

You already have font set up in your i3/config file... so it should work?

Re: [solved] i3 : icons on i3bar

Thanks smile , I've removed the line on conkyrc file , and  downoladed :  https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/ttf-font-awesome/ .. maybe before I was wrong to use https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/font-awesome/?

I create a package which contain all fonts, css, less and scss files for font-awesome, but font files are not install to system font directory.
the package is most useful for web developers.fill free to use it:
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/font-awesome/

.

I had installed the ttf-font-awesome ( without copy and paste the directory on any  /fonts/path , just with pacman -U ) , and I  had seen them in use ( just opening the xfrce-terminal and seeing they was avaible - yes I am so noob ) .
Now the icons was showing on the terminal , with a copy and paste from  http://fontawesome.io/cheatsheet/ , but on the bar they'll still not showing correctly until changing , to the /i3/config , the size  :

 font pango:Cousine,FontAwesome 9

Thanks a lot smile
