1..... I installed ooffice, xpdf, .... and I have entries in Gnome menu automatically.
Then, probably, I changed something in my daemnos array, now i have
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng powersaved laptop-mode !hotplug !pcmcia netfs crond
network ifplugd portmap fam)
Then I installed licq, tuxracer, jacman and there are no new entries in the gnome menu. Dou you have any explanation for this? According to
ps -aux
both fam and portmap seem to run.
2..... is it correct to load both network and ifplugd?

I think it's next to impossible that daemons have something to do with the gnome menu(excpet for fam). Not all programs add menu entries. You can use a menu editor from AUR to add new entries or better create a new .desktop file in /usr/share/applications to suit your needs. You can base yours on the already existing ones in that directory.

pacman -Ql licq tuxracer jacman|grep .desktop
If this does not show any .desktop files, nothing is wrong and you need to make your own .desktop files.

The way it works is fam/gamin/inotify -> gnome-vfs -> gnome-menus. If there's a .desktop file the entry should be added on install.

Thank you, there are no .desktop files in licq or tuxracer and hence no automatical item in menu.

Weird, I saw this happen with the GIMP last night... Installed it but it didn't appear in the menu until this morning. :? That hasn't happened with any other software though.
(BTW, is there any Gnome/GTK2 image manipulation program that uses Imagemagick, ala Krita? It seems a bit redundant to have both that and GIMP installed.)

Maybe you want something with more features, but you can do some image manipulation with display. It comes with imagemagick.

Next release of Jacman will come with .desktop files. I have them already (contributed to the project, in fact) and it's just a matter of integrating some changes to warrant a new release.
