old umax-scanner with isa/scsi-adapter

hallo arch-linux-user

since some weeks I'm owning an old umax-Scanner "ASTRA 1200S" together with
the fitting isa/scsi-card.

man sane-umax told me:

The ISA-SCSI-adapters that are shipped with some Umax-scanners are not
supported very well by Linux (I suggest not to use it), the PCI-SCSI-
adapters that come with some Umax-scanners are not supported at all (as
far as I know). On other platforms these SCSI-adapters are not sup-
ported. So you typically need to purchase another SCSI-adapter that
supported by your platform.

So here are my questions:

1. it's doesn't make sence to spend too much time to get this old
isa/scsi-card to work? I have to configurate my own kernelsettings to get
the fitting modules? (this includes the download of the kernel-sources for
me as a dialin user, and btw. I've never done a kernelcompilation before )

2. I found a pci/scsi-adapter from Adaptec AVA-2906. Is this adapter working
together with my kernel26-beyond?

thanks for any reply

Re: old umax-scanner with isa/scsi-adapter

after googlin' around I found here

http://www.mjmwired.net/kernel/Document … ic7xxx.txt

the answer to my questions 2.

The hostcontroller Adaptec AVA-2906 is well supported by the linux-kernel.
My first question is from no interest anymore.

bye, ToLo
