[SOLVED] Atom editor blank menu items

Hi guys,

Some months ago, I moved from netbeans to atom. I'm having some weird issues with menus on community package (atom). Whichever menu I open, every menu item under my cursor becomes an unreadable white rectangle. It's been there since I first moved to atom, I think it was version 1.11 or so.

However, it does not happen with AUR packages like atom-editor-bin.

I use Openbox and try to get away from heavy dependencies packages. Any ideas, besides using an AUR package?

When you hover over a menu option, it looks like the background of the menu item doesn't turn blue, but white. And the menu option text also turns white. This makes the white menu option text unreadable.

Should the menus be snow white?
I don't know OB (apart from a few months of ArchBang) so I don't know if that is normal when using OB.

Atom has menus with a dark background on my box.
When hovering over a menu option, its background turns blue.

You could try disabling hardware acceleration in Atom : https://discuss.atom.io/t/how-to-disabl … ux/20996/8
Try atom --disable-gpu from the command line first.

Hi Dokter Bibber,

On hover menu item background is still white if I start atom with --disable-gpu or --safe launch options. I have tried to change my OB theme, but no luck: the menubar does not follow my OB theme :-(

Solved!

This issue happens with the gtk theme I was using (Greybird). Switched to Adwaita, and it's ok now. Still don't know why AUR packages are ok with Greybird though.
