Brighntess setting has no effect when using discrete graphics

Hi

I have a Lenovo T420 and usually manipulate brightness level with Fn keys, i.e. I'm setting the level in /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness which ranges from 1 to 15.

However, when I turn of integrated graphics and only use discrete graphics in BIOS then the screen's brightness always is at the lowest level. Changing the level /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness doesn't change the brightness of the screen anymore.

Any suggestions?
