lxpanel 0.9.1-1 battery icon gets black, no information available

Hello,

after upgrading lxpanel from former package (0.8.2-1) to the newst (0.9.1-1), my battery in the system tray icon went black. When hovering over the icon it seems like no battery is attached ("0%, not charging" or something similar). Downgrading the package works for now, but how can I help fix this bug?

I have an thinkpad x220 with original equipment working.

Thanks for your help!

Hello techge,

I upgraded my system with lxpanel yesterday and found no error. It seems that there is no problem with the package.

The machine is a samsung n148 netbook with openbox wm.

Just a report and good luck : )

Re: lxpanel 0.9.1-1 battery icon gets black, no information available

@techge,

I'm having the same issue on a Thinkpad X61.  Just upgraded and came here to see if I was the only one encountering the issue.  I'll dig into it a bit and see what I come up with.

Quick update:
https://sourceforge.net/p/lxde/bugs/848/

And one more update:
In the source code for the lxpanel battery plugin:

<src>/lxpanel-0.9.1/plugins/batt/batt_sys.c, lines 177-178 and 190-191 reference:
"charge_now," "energy_now," "charge_full," and "energy_full."

I did a quick "find" command to locate any files on my system that match those and it looks like I can find energy_now and energy_full but not the references to charge_now or charge_full.  That is why the lxpanel plugin is no longer operating correctly; the files are missing.  So, what to do about that?  I say we let the bug report I found earlier run its course.  Doesn't appear to have any effect on system behavior and you can always install acpi and issue a quick "acpi -V" in a terminal to check your battery status.  You could also check into some of the other battery monitor programs temporarily.

Hello,

thanks for your replies and the link to the bug-report, although nothing happened there yet.

It is interesting that it seems to affect only some devices. Well, we'll see...

greetings
