VirtualBox+Wayland

Hello I am trying to run wayland on a new arch linux install...
but I keep getting this odd "either no EGL_EXT_platform_base or specifict platform support; falling back to eglGetDisplay"
no EGL configs to choose from.
failed to choose EGL config
failed to initialize EGL
fatal: failed to create compositor backend...

Any idea in how to resolve this?
thanks! <3

Re: VirtualBox+Wayland

Please read the code of conduct. We also need more information from you. For starters, what desktop environment are you using?

Re: VirtualBox+Wayland

Hi, sure I will.. but this is a new install on virtualbox I have no desktop env, just trying to run the tests, as soon I get wayland working then I can install a desktop enviroment, most likely KDE PLASMA

Re: VirtualBox+Wayland

Are you using a Wayland compositor such as Weston? Wayland on its own is useless and needs a compositor. I asked which desktop environment you are using as several desktop environments implement a Wayland compositor.

Of course I am, I am following the Arch wiki for it, sorry I though you mean a well known one like KDE/Gnome etc.. but yes Weston until I can get a enviroment then I will add kde plasma on it.
The reason im doing this is to not confuse it with later on a KDE issue..

Re: VirtualBox+Wayland

I'm quite sure that you can't use Wayland in VirtualBox as the drivers for the virtual hardware don't support it.

Re: VirtualBox+Wayland

I'm sorry, I misunderstood the question. I thought you were trying to run Virtualbox on a Wayland system and Virtualbox was giving you those errors. From the quick search I've done, punkmikey seems to be correct. You'll just have to wait until the VirtualBox developers add Wayland support or use something else like KVM.

Re: VirtualBox+Wayland

I'm not actually sure if KVM will work either as I've never messed with it before. Is there a specific reason you need to use Wayland?

Re: VirtualBox+Wayland

Hmm not really, I just like to play with new tech, I hear that fedora ships with it by default now. so I thought is time to help debug/learn the in/outs of it.. this is why I want to use it on KVM/VBox etc for now.. when is stable enough I will make it my main desktop
