I just got my arch linux running, and I installed gnome 3 to start off. I wanted to try cinnamon, since i've heard good things about it. I installed it, then after rebooting, when I try to start cinnamon from gdm, it kicks me back to the home screen. Gnome on xorg does the same exact thing. The only thing working right now is gnome on wayland. Is this an xorg issue or a hardware issue?

Your journal and/or Xorg log will tell you ;-)
(Possible causes are bad/lacking Xorg drivers or HW access issues because GDM uses wayland and fails to hand over the framebuffer or whatnot - the answer ist most likely in your Xorg logs )

What are you trying to say?
Just post it, you'll find it either in /var/log or ~/.local/share/xorg/ - ensure it's up to date.
If no xorg log is written at all, there's your problem: you've no X server installed.
