Can't set screen off after 'n' minutes on my Thinkpad X1 Carbon

Hi,

On a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon I would like the screen to turn off after one or more minutes and come back when I touch keyboard or mouse. I am running GNOME and I have set this in the Power settings just like I did on Ubuntu. However, the screen is not turning off at all. I booted UbuntuGNOME again and it worked again. It works with a "xset s 60" to get a minute delays so there's something not going right in GNOME. I know I can script the xset command to get what I want, but it would be easier to be able to set it in GNOME settings especially since this laptop is used by people who do not know feel comfortable in the terminal but who will want to change this setting.

What are the differences between your UbuntuGNOME and Arch setup? Do you use gdm in either one or both?
