X failure after upgrade from 4.8.6-1-ARCH

Hi,

I have a Dell Precision 5510 laptop (Xeon E3-1505M, Intel HD Graphics P530 + Nvidia Quadro M1000M) running Gnome with kernel 4.8.6-1.  Over the last month I've experienced the same error after every system update:  X fails to start, with the "no screens found" fatal server error shown in the Xorg.0.log.old file shown below.  If I downgrade the kernel back to 4.8.6-1 (without downgrading any other packages) everything works fine again.  I've been hoping that the issue will get resolved eventually, but I've now confirmed it for kernels 4.8.7-1, 4.8.8-1, and 4.8.12-3.  Is there some additional configuration trick that I am missing that is necessary for kernels >4.8.6-1?

Here is the X.org.log file showing the failure (after the kernel upgrade):

Re: X failure after upgrade from 4.8.6-1-ARCH

because two driver uses, for nvidia card, I would try to remove what you do not use.
if you do not do kernel downgrade

bye

Re: X failure after upgrade from 4.8.6-1-ARCH

You say that the first Xorg.0.log is after the kernel upgrade, but it shows the same current kernel as the other log file:

[     9.710] Current Operating System: Linux michaeldell 4.8.6-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Oct 31 18:51:30 CET 2016 x86_64
and
[    67.992] Current Operating System: Linux michaeldell 4.8.6-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Oct 31 18:51:30 CET 2016 x86_64

Can you explain this please? Did you reboot the machine after the upgrade?

Re: X failure after upgrade from 4.8.6-1-ARCH

I had a similar problem recently (Dell computer, dual graphics card, near identical crash log). By any chance was 4.8.6-1 the first kernel you had installed?
