Arch Linux 64bit on a X1 Carbon (4th gen) with HD Graphics 520 video card. I use XFCE as my desktop environment.
Within Chrome, I am seeing a graphical glitch in some tooltips (it seems random). Here is an example from xkcd's website:

Please note that this does not happen in Firefox, or any other GTK application (including GIMP). It doesn't happen on all tooltips, but on every 2 or 3. This happens with Compton disabled as well as while it is running.
I've tried changing themes, as well as manually editing the tooltip color settings in ~/g.tkrc-2.0 (color changes to whatever I put there, but but corruption stays). I've also set Chrome to use native GTK theme with no changes.
I found this mesa bug that might be related.
Any ideas?
Thanks

@yochaigal, see the policy about posting pictures at: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Co … s_and_code
Moving the thread to "Applications and Desktop Environments".
On topic,
the bug you linked to suggests setting LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1. Have you tried that?

I made the image smaller than 50kb.

Yes, running "env LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 google-chrome-stable" seems to solve the problem, but graphics are quite glitchy as a result (scrolling is pretty bad).
Thanks.

I don't really have much to offer. Perhaps try changing Intel graphics acceleration method to uxa. If that doesn't work, perhaps give the modesetting driver a try.

please provide glxinfo and xorg log, for a start

Doesn't xfce come with its own compositor?

I see this problem with Chrome / Chromium is basically any DE or WM, across multiple distros. It seems to be an actual bug in the browser.

I do not have this issue on my two other Arch machines (which I use with equal measure). Both have nVidia GPUs.

Just chiming in that this is still an issue. I have the problem on my Intel netbook (HD520 GPU as well). Using the modesetting XOrg driver.
As OP says, it only seems to affect tooltips in Chrome, nothing else.

Don't necrobump old posts with no new information, follow https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/is … ?id=442111 unless that bug is marked as fixed it's likely to still be an issue. (Hint: Chrome and all chrome/electron based apps (Atom, the new Skype e.g.) will suffer from this since Chrome doesn't use native GTK but their own toolkit implementation.)

Same challenge here with a 2024 version of browser ungoogled-chromium
We found a fix at https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 9#p2169419

Please don't necrobump 8 year old threads. Chances that what you are seeing has the same implications as it was 8 years ago are very slim, even if the symptoms appear the same.
Closing this old thread.
