[SOLVED] Clang vs GCC

Good Afternoon,

A couple of days ago an update to the llvm-libs was published, and promptly corrupted most desktops including mine. A simple downgrade of the llvm-libs reverted everything to normal but...it gave me a big surprise. I was not expecting Clang to be in Linux. I knew that Clang was the goto for the BSD's, but thought GCC was still the standard for Linux.

Am I wrong? IS something changing?

Because this gives me some concern:

a)    Is Clang the new standard compiler Arch is built with? If so, I need to switch out my GCC compiler in Code::Blocks to Clang.

b)    What are the ramifications of having a system partly compiled with GCC and partly compiled with Clang? Do the binaries play nice with each other? Or was the recent update and subsequent misbehavior of the llvm-libs not compiler related, but related to a bug in the lib itself?

I would appreciate someone filling me in....

Thanks!

Dave
