Hi,
I need to run my pulseaudio server in system mode on my headless server. I have added a systemd configuration file and the pulseaudio server is running.
[pheinrich@ARCH_MEDIA Music]$ ps aux | grep pulse
pulse 842 0.0 0.2 348888 11396 ? S<sl 12:47 0:00 /usr/bin/pulseaudio --system --disallow-exit --disallow-module-loading
The goups of the user 'pheinrich' are
wheel pulse-access pheinrich samba smb_admin share pulse
So the required groups pulse and pulse-access are present.
I have added an alias to control the pulseaudio server
alias pacmd='sudo PULSE_RUNTIME_PATH=/var/run/pulse -u pulse pacmd'
I have checked the sinks and all seems to be fine.
Now if I try to play something via cvlc I get the following outpout
[pheinrich@ARCH_MEDIA Music]$ LC_ALL=C cvlc Sia\ -\ Chandelier.mp3
VLC media player 2.2.4 Weatherwax (revision 2.2.3-37-g888b7e89)

I noticed that in /etc/dbus-1/system.d/pulseaudio-system.conf there is a comment "System-wide PulseAudio runs as 'pulse' user." Did you try creating a pulse user?
EDIT: Never mind. Thanks Rasi.

He hoped and prayed that there wasn't an afterlife. Then he realized there was a contradiction involved here and merely hoped that there wasn't an afterlife.
