Hello,
I try to run Steam but it always shows the message and stuck on it:
limedyse@Limedyse_PC ~
>> steam
/home/limedyse/.local/share/Steam/steam.sh:Line154: VERSION_ID: unbound variable
/home/limedyse/.local/share/Steam/steam.sh:Line154: VERSION_ID: unbound variable
Running Steam on arch 64-bit
/home/limedyse/.local/share/Steam/steam.sh:Line154: VERSION_ID: unbound variable
STEAM_RUNTIME is enabled automatically
Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steam)/version(1482202200)
The log file in ~/.local/share/Steam/logs doesn't have error message. Either Steam doesn't output any error information.
I'm sure that I have installed
steam-native-runtime, lib32-nvidia-304xx-libgl
I even tried using
LD_PRELOAD='/usr/$LIB/libstdc++.so.6 /usr/$LIB/libgcc_s.so.1 /usr/$LIB/libxcb.so.1 /usr/$LIB/libgpg-error.so' /usr/bin/steam
but no affect.
How do I solve it? THX

I have tried this way just now, but still not launching Steam.

As the article says, this isn't an actual problem...
Could you post the log from steam here?
Are there any entries in the kernel or Xorg log maybe?

I have switched to the xf86-video-nouveau instead of nvidia-304xx. And Steam can show the login form. But it doesn't show the Main Frame. It's transparent!

Hi,
ah, the venerable GeForce 6800 ...
As an idea, since the login window appears, so should at least the main window, or part of it, so
can you check if maybe the main window appears but its outside the screen? Depending on the window manager,
there may be a key combination to bring the window into the screen center or the viewport ...
In worst case it may be an incompatibility between the really old nvidia driver that supports the 6800 and the far newer libs used by steam.
All the best!
