Onboard Audio Not Working

Hey everyone. This is a tough issue I've been trying to solve for a few days now. I've asked around on irc and in alsa. I've read a lot of possible solutions and tried anymore.
No sound is coming out of any of the ports. I'm going to list some hypothesis to what's wrong, things I've tried and then relevant hardware/software information at the bottom
Any help would be extremely appreciated. I'm Nullifer in the #archlinux IRC on freenode if you'd be willing to help me on there.

Possible causes:

jack sensing isn't working, every jack is muted.
wrong/incorrect alsa drivers for my hardware
onboard audio physically got damaged somehow (unlikely)
Other things I haven't thought of

Some things I have tried:

* Lots of suggestions in forums editing the /etc/modprobe.d/*.conf file
* Unmuting literally everything (alsamixer pavucontrol)
* Disabling hdmi onboard audio in uefi
* Making sure onboard audio was enabled
* Installing OSS and disabling alsa. OSS didn't detect any sound devices except USB
* Uninstalling pulse and using only alsa
* Updating UEFI
* Powering down system, unplugging power
* Resetting CMOS
* Using HDMI tv plugged into video card (Didn't mess around with this much, sound didn't work but I didn't try to remedy it at all)
* Reinstalling operating system
* Booting up live linux mint stable 18.1, debian stable 8.6.0, ubuntu 14.04, ubuntu 16.10
* Rand HDA Analyzer - only thing successful that came out of this was going to pin 0x14 (green rear end jack that my headphones are plugged into via a mic/headphone splitter) then unselecting and reselecting the output button. This resulted in a feint popping sound every time I did it.
* alsactl monitor - unplugged/plugged in every jack, ended with no output
* installing realtek's generic driver - It failed to compile and made alsa stop detecting the onboard audio. I had to reinstall the linux kernel to get it to work again.
* Disabling my Video card's (rx 480) sound card with options snd-hda-intel enable=1,0 in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
* options snd-hda-intel model=asus-mode1 in my /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf I also tried asus-mode2-8 as per http://git.alsa-project.org/?p=alsa-ker … xt;hb=HEAD
This had the result of showing a combination headset, speaker, and line out unplugged depending on which model I was using, however still no sound. hdajackretask showed some interesting differences between the models.

Relevant system info:

Motherboard: ASRock z97 extreme 3
Graphics card: XFX Rx 480 8GB (has an audio card detected by alsa for HDMI)

Re: Onboard Audio Not Working

Can you try playing something and while doing that post

sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*
pacmd list-sinks
pacmd list-sink-inputs

have you tried switching around the available ports in pavucontrol's output devices tab?

Re: Onboard Audio Not Working

Yes I have tried switching around the available ports in pavucontrol. Everything shows unplugged except for digital stereo (IEC958) with the output device SPDIF.

sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*

Re: Onboard Audio Not Working

The play something part is important for the last and first command, you should have something you expect audio out of open and playing

Re: Onboard Audio Not Working

Nothing unusual here, the only thing I see that might have an influence is that in your amixer output the Headphone control is at 0 so maybe try upping that, either via amixer or alsamixer, although if my understanding is correct this should be influcenced by pulse anyway...
