[SOLVED] Wireless issue on Asus Zenbook UX305CA

Hey guys,

I was hoping someone might be able to help me with an issue I've recently started having with my Asus Zenbook UX305CA laptop.

I have had Arch installed on it since I bought it in August with no real issues. Over the last week, however, I've been having huge problems with the wireless connection. Whenever I wake from suspend, and most times when I boot the laptop, the wireless card doesn't seem to be recognised by Arch: no entry for the device is listed using ip link list or iw dev, and no network hardware is visible in lspci or lshw. Eventually, after a few reboots the card tends to re-appear within Arch and work as normal until suspend or another reboot; then the problem recurs.

I have tried booting from an Arch USB and the same issue happens here too: sometimes the card isn't visible, sometimes it is. It is a recent USB download, however, with (I think) the same Kernel version as my install.

The problem seems to have occurred after a recent Linux kernel update, though I can't be sure if that is the cause. This Zenbook is a Skylake laptop with a Core m3 processor. I have dmesg and lshw output where the wireless is not working, and output from when it is. This is listed below.

Any help or advice anyone can give would be very welcome.

One thing I should also mention is that I receive the following error on several occasions within dmesg when the wireless card is working:

We seem to have almost the same laptop and at the same BIOS level (v2.40).

I just upgraded to 4.8.13-1-ARCH and have yet to hit your problem, but the dmesg output from mine has one fairly major difference, otherwise it's almost exactly the same.

When I compared both of your dmesg outputs, the problem seems to stem from these lines being missing when it doesn't work:

Which is the wireless device:

$ lspci -nn -d 8086:095a
01:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation Wireless 7265 [8086:095a] (rev 59)

and those PCI Bus Errors you encounter are probably significant because the wireless device seems to be "behind" that PCI bridge.

Anyway, the semi-major difference between my dmesg and yours is that mine always has this line at the very top:

[    0.000000] microcode: microcode updated early to revision 0x9e, date = 2016-06-22

Thanks very much for the advice pigiron.

I didn't have the intel-ucode package installed; installing it seems to have fixed the issue. It was a problem I also encountered the same problem in a live Ubuntu environment with a different kernel version, so perhaps this laptop requires this package for the proper operation of the wireless.
