[SOLVED] Enabling Nvidia driver on a hybrid intel/nvidia system.

Hi again, I posted here earlier because I was unable to build i3-gaps due to a missing package. That was fixed, however there is still something wrong with my Nvidia drivers or settings.

I went on to install compton, but when I try to run it I get an error:

$ compton -b
glx_init(): No GLX extension.

Xorg log errors:

$ cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep '(EE)'
	(WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown.

However, the relevant part of `lspci -v` says:

When I try to run `nvidia-settings` I also get a popup message saying a proper driver is not installed.

My /etc/X11/xorg.conf is currently empty, as that allows me to at least start X but I'm guessing it's using the intel part of the videocard. The NVIDIA Optimus page says to add the following but then I just get a black screen.

Section "Module"
	Load "modesetting"
EndSection

Section "Device"
	Identifier "nvidia"
	Driver "nvidia"
	BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
	Option "AllowEmptyInitialConfiguration"
EndSection

What's going wrong here, exactly?

NVIDIA_Optimus#Display_Managers
Have you configured a display setup script if you are using a display manager or added the xrandr lines to ~/.xinitrc?

Re: [SOLVED] Enabling Nvidia driver on a hybrid intel/nvidia system.

Not using a display manager here, but I hadn't added those xrandr lines to ~/.xinitrc. My bad, the way that section on the wiki is ordered made me think those lines are only necessary on the older version of Xorg.

Case closed, thanks again loqs. smile
