vmware and xgl

Since I started running compiz/xgl I am no longer able to run vmware correctly. Basically vmware starts but seems to just sit there with a black screen. Also I get this error:

Xlib:  extension "XFree86-VidModeExtension" missing on display ":1.0".

Oh and to note I'm using 2.6.16-beyond which I cannot remember if I had vmware working on?

Re: vmware and xgl

OK so can anyone tell me if they are able to run vmware under compiz?

Just so I know if it's a compiz, etc issue or my vmware or most likely just me...

Re: vmware and xgl

Judging from the votes for the vmware packages in AUR, not too many arch users have vmware.
Allthough i'm one of them, i don't use the beyond kernel or compiz/xgl.
The best place to ask help for your problem would be the wmware forums.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Re: vmware and xgl

Hi

I have vmware workstation 5.1 working in xfce-svn using the beyond kernel with compiz/xgl.  Didnt have any problems getting it  going.  It looks like your video card doesnt support mode-switching, in your xorg.conf do you have the line

Option    "omit XFree86-VidModeExtension"

if so comment it out and see if this fixes that error
