Is there a difference from the rox package in extra?
# pacman -S rox

Yeah rox desktop is a kind of a wm/de replacement built around the rox file roller. Looks interesting in regard of useability but provides an own kind of update mechanism.
Haven't been here in a while. Still rocking Arch.

Description : A small and fast file manager which can optionally manage the
desktop background and panels.
It contains only the file-manager.

?? it says right there in the Description: "A small and fast file manager which can optionally manage the desktop background and panels."
just killall whatever app that manages your background now, and then run rox -with-the-appropriate-options. Believe me, the desktop IS included, the are just called the same: rox.
