doesn't matter which wm i use, whether it's i3 or bspwm
instead of exiting x desktop and back to the commandline, i'm now faced with just a blank black screen.
my .xinitrc is default except the added lines for the wm near the very bottom:

and here is my Xorg.0.log:

Why is your kernel so old?

uname -r shows i do have the current kernel
somehow the Xorg.0.log in my ~/.local/share/xorg/ was old
the /var/log/Xorg.0.log one is new though

Do you have a TTY if you switch while X is still running? What card and driver?

nividia driver
GeForce GTX 980
someone mentioned that it could be because somehow my xorg decided that it needs root, and that's why my the recent xorg.0.log ended up in /var/log instead of /.local/share/xorg/
you think that might be the reason why my x desktop isn't exiting properly? because somehow xorg is being run as root? o.0

needs_root_rights = no in /etc/X11/Xwrapper.config
created this file and checked ps -u root and ps -u myusername
now xorg is not run by root but by my own username now, but upon exiting x with my wm's keybind, i'm left with a black blank screen again
dont think it's my wm either since i've changed my .xinitrc and test it with both i3 and bspwm

maybe it's just an issue with the new nvidia driver then.
i'll just wait for the next upgrade or something.

when i'm in X, i can ctrl+alt+f1,f2,f3..... and back to f1 to the original tty1
those all work
when i exit x however, i get the blank screen, but if i type startx, it will actually launch my x again. probably in another tty sine i tried using weechat, but it told me that there's already an instance opened. so the original tty1 and X wasn't exited properly.

How do you exit X? Have you tried using the nouveau driver?

Dirty fix
