GTK2 bases sane frontends.

Just looking around the net, I'm not seeing any GTK based frontends for SANE. I'm not counting xsane because that is what I'm using currently. It seems that if you're willing to use KDE libs the choices are much larger.

Maybe KDE is worth another try now as it has gone through a few major releases since I've last tried it. Things like k3b seem great and the KDE file manager seem nice, but I really hate Qt and the bulk of the KDE environment. I've got plenty of horsepower (2.3Ghz AMD, 2GB RAM) but I've  still tried to keep my system light.

IMHO the bloat that is attributed to KDE is no more true at least since the 3.x versions.
I'm running KDE on an aging Athlon XP 1800 with 512 Mb just fine.
Even on my old Thinkpat with pIII 1,1Ghz and 256Mb it runs well.

Seconded!

I use KDE on a 1.1GHz PIII laptop with 256MB and on a celeron 1.2GHz with 256MB. It starts just as fast as the latest xfce (!) and Konqueror (+ embedded apps) is unbelievable. And last time I looked, there was nothing that could really match k3b for burning. It's true, half (well, 95%?) of KDE I never use, but for most people the space occupied will not be too significant.

By the way, what is wrong with Xsane? I don't scan much, but I have nearly always used it (mostly via GIMP).
