acroread not working: undefined symbol: xcb_wait_for_reply64

I hadn't used Adobe reader in a while and when I try  to launch it now I get this error:

/usr/bin/acroread: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib32/libX11.so.6: undefined symbol: xcb_wait_for_reply64

I tried reinstalling it, but to no avail, nor  did I find anything related to this error and acroread in the forums (there are a couple of posts about this error, but they refer to other apps, and the proposed solutions are not applicable to this case).

Any ideas on how to fix it?

This is usually the result of a partial update.

That was my first thought too, but updating the system did not improve the situation. Neither did reinstalling libxcb and its 32 bit sister package.

If some update failed, how can I find out which one?
