Problem with AMD graphics on newer kernel.

Hi!
First of all, I have already asked this question 5 months ago, because I had the same problem on my Ubuntu machine.
The thread is here:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/812244/g … sor-around
Excuse me for not describing everything here but it works the same way. As you can see my problem was not fixed,
so maybe you guys can help me and I feel arch has bigger community.
So, I am on arch right now and I experience the same problem. This makes me feel it might be a kernel and/or drivers issue, since on older linux versions
eveything worked fine- on mint 17, with kernel 3.16 if I remember well- things worked, no problem. Then I upgraded my kernel to 4.something (4.4 i guess), and boom-
my Xorg was messed up and I decided it would be faster to reinstall linux. So here I am on fresh arch installation experiencing the same problem.
I use KDE and my GPU is r9 380.
Also I have written a short py script which adds up to a variable every second and displays incremented number, put terminal window with script launched on my second display (i use two displays)
and ran game- What I noticed is, when game freezes, everything else also freezes. My counter was not outputting numbers, but I know it was still working since I could hear youtube audio. (So things work, just everything
including input is freezed since I can't switch to ttyl)

Thanks for any help.

Re: Problem with AMD graphics on newer kernel.

report like a bug in arch for newer kernels, but i am thinkig if the problem is related to the new driver because I haven't heard anything about this weird problem, try to use the game withouth DE, try to run with an older kernel, compile it and try, if now.. try to use the integrated graphics(I suppose you use an intel igpu) and see if it is something weird, other thing you can do is not using amdgpu pro.. use the open source version, or in other way, use the privative driver, try to use mesa git.. I don't know what can be, but I read the post, it is very complete, I don't know why anybody helps you before....
PD: use only 1 screen and tell if that helps, change the different outputs and try again, it is try and fail
sorry for my bad english, I am not native and Ihave forgot to do a well syntax

Re: Problem with AMD graphics on newer kernel.

Well, I can not use closed source drivers because It requires xorg version <1.18, and I am not really into downgrading xorg. As I told It is propably a kernel issue, worked on 3.16 but also I had closed source drivers back then.
Things work on intel GPU but it is really slow.
To refer to one screen usage- when I had the same problem few months ago I only used one display so thats not really the problem.
Thanks for trying to help anyway, waiting if someone else has any other ideas. If not maybe I should contact developers of open source drivers for linux and
let them know about my problem?

Re: Problem with AMD graphics on newer kernel.

try to downgrade because amdgpu pro use other driver to comunicate to kernel , try and if not fix the problem upgrade, you are not going to lose nothing.. or put other dependencies in the package, may the module function with it.. I would try this before downgrading

Re: Problem with AMD graphics on newer kernel.

So I did as you told me to do and downgraded xorg to 1.17
Sadly, now I have the infamous [OK] Reached target graphical Interface hang.
I have somehow managed to gather some logs in ttyl2 and sent them to my email so I can now post them to you guys from my laptop.
Here they are:

Re: Problem with AMD graphics on newer kernel.

I'm running a Gigabyte r9 380x card without any problems. Your card has the same chip.

We can try to find out what the main differences between our systems are (hard- and software) and maybe that way, we'll find the issue.

First of all, use amdgpu. The GCN 1.2 from the 300 series were the first to have amdgpu support so I'd recommend to stick with it.
Your Xorg-log doesn't show the amdgpu being loaded.

My Xorg-log for comparison:

Re: Problem with AMD graphics on newer kernel.

@Drehstromlampe sorry to say but I have already fixed my issue. I have just downgraded xorg to version 1.17 and installed fglrx. Everything else remains the same. This lets me think that it was propably open source drivers issue.
I would really like to help but now as I have my xorg.conf fixed and drivers working I am not really into getting back to the state when it was freezing.
