Hello,
I have a regression with my HP 5740 OfficeJet AllInOne Printer/scanner as xsane no longer detect my scanner.
I can use my printer with no problem.
My Printer/scanner is connected on my local network with WIFI and configured with hpijs, 3.16.11.
Any clue to investigate the problem ?
regards
Olivier

If I delete my printer, switch off printer WIFI, plug the printer with USB, configure my printer with CUPS interface, it all works fine (print & scan).
then if I delete my printer, unplug USB cable, turn on WIFI on printer, configure my printer with CUPS interface, printer is working but not scan :-(....
It used to work...
any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried starting xsane from command line to see what errors it throws?

Thank you for your suggestion.
I have tried indeed and here is the messages :
(xsane:7713): Gtk-WARNING **: Impossible de trouver le moteur de thème dans module_path : « adwaita »
(xsane:7713): Gtk-WARNING **: Impossible de trouver le moteur de thème dans module_path : « adwaita »
then xsane (on GUI) tells me it could not find any scanner.

Try to start with -vv to see if we can get some more info. The Gtk-WARNING's aren't telling a whole lot

here we go :
lesbecs@archbec ~]$ xsane -vv
xsane-0.999 (c) 1998-2013 Oliver Rauch
E-mail: Oliver.Rauch@xsane.org
paquetage xsane-0.999
compilé avec GTK-2.24.22
with color management function
sans support GIMP
Formats de sortie XSane: jpeg, pdf(compr.), png, pnm, ps(compr.), tiff, txt
by the way got rid of GTK-Warning by installing "gnome-themes-standard" package.

Ah. I suppose I should have checked xsane manual first. The -v option in this case just prints the version, rather than verbose. It doesn't appear they support this option. I don't see a lot of documentation for troubleshooting xsane specifically, but you might try this if you haven't already. These steps worked for me for getting an HP Envy 5540 working on Arch. Apart from that, try simple-scan.

Fantastic ! thanks a lot for your help.
I ran hp-setup -i <my_printer_IP_address> in sudo mode and it now works again.
