2nd Monitor rotate crashes OS and puts me on log-in screen

I rotated my second monitor yesterday and now I get random crashes and dont know how to fix it, I had a search and added a 20-intel.conf:

ian@Arch:~$ more /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
Section "Device"
       Identifier  "Intel Graphics"
    Driver      "intel"
    Option        "DRI"    "false"
    Option     "AccelMethod"    "sna"
EndSection

But it did not hep, in-fact it made is worse. My mesa drivers are upto date

I have no issues when monitor is set to normal orientation, any pointers appreciated.

Thanks

I started playing with xrandr rather than using Cinnamon's display preferences will see if it fixes it.

Unfortunately that didn't work either, although it did last much longer this time!

Re: 2nd Monitor rotate crashes OS and puts me on log-in screen

Remove that conf and xf86-video-intel , this driver is known to have issues and is barely maintained. See if you can reprodruce after removing both. The Xorg built-in modesetting driver tends to work better these days

you should have a backtrace in the xorg log which might be worth inspection.

Re: 2nd Monitor rotate crashes OS and puts me on log-in screen

I tried removing xf86-video-intel  but it would not start X so I have kept it but have set the driver to  modesetting in the xorg.config.

So far so good, bit of a mess I guess - http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=a … 2017&num=1

Re: 2nd Monitor rotate crashes OS and puts me on log-in screen

So no crashing today after switching drivers which is good BUT now I have this weird anomaly on my 43 inch 4K monitor where is momentary shifts to the the right and back again, very quickly but I do see it.

Any ideas on how to fix that ?
