Hi,
I am unable to get the following conky script to run properly on my arch install, with xfce4 + openbox + xcompmgr:
conky.config = {
alignment = 'bottom_left',
own_window = true,
own_window_class = 'Conky',
own_window_type = 'override',
own_window_transparent = true,
}
conky.text = [[
Hello World
]]If I set own_window_class to 'desktop' it works, but I don't want openbox to place windows relatively to the conky frames...
The code mentioned above shows nothing on screen, and pops the following debug messages on stdout:
conky: desktop window (e002bf) is subwindow of root window (f7)
conky: window type - override
conky: drawing to created window (0x2c00001)Also, conky's 'override' windows do not show up in the output of `wmctrl -l`, which somehow makes sense since override windows are not supposed to be handled my the WM right?
I though at first it might be caused by compton, since I was using xcompmgr before, but I get the same issue with both compositors.
Any Ideas what I'm missing?
Thanks in advance ![]()

Nevermind,
I deactivated all xfce "desktop" features (icons, wallpaper etc) with xfdesktop --quit, and used nitrogen to handle my background.
Now conky shows fine.
Though, I liked the fancy xfce desktop background changer... Is there an alternative to my solution, that would allow me to use xfce4 desktop background & conky in override mode?
