Hey all,
just updated gutenprint and was instructed to run /usr/bin/cups-genppdupdate and afterwards restart the cups daemon.
So I run genppdupdate after the update and got the following output:
# /usr/bin/cups-genppdupdate
/etc/cups/ppd/FS-2020D.ppd: no valid candidate for replacement. Skipping
/etc/cups/ppd/FS-2020D.ppd: please upgrade this PPD manually
Unable to retrieve PPD file for /etc/cups/ppd/FS-2020D.ppd!
Failed to update any PPD files
I indeed have a Kyocera FS-2020D installed, but even after restarting the cups daemon, printing works.
Is there anything to do now, or what is this message trying to tell me?
Kind Regards,
Florian

Just to let you know, it isn't only on your printer. and system, I got the same results for a Canon Pixma mx340 printer. Cups also seems to print fine without what ever it is complaining about not finding in the message.
I read it more as saying that there weren't any updated files to apply for my printer in the update. Hope to find an answer, too.

cups-genppdupdate regenerates the Gutenprint PPD files in use by CUPS

Correct.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
(A works at time B) && (time C > time B ) ≠ (A works at time C)

Since I upgraded gutenprint (5.2.11-5 -> 5.2.12-1), I am getting the same error, but in my case, nothing is being printed.

Status: The PPD version (5.2.11) is not compatible with Gutenprint 5.2.12. Please run `/usr/bin/cups-genppdupdate' as administrator.
Alerts: job-completed-with-errors
queued for canon_mx391
In /etc/cups/ppd/canon_mx391.ppd I tried replacing
*FileVersion: "5.2.11"
with
*FileVersion: "5.2.12"
, but the error persists.
Any further ideas?

The ppd file "/etc/cups/ppd/FS-2020D.ppd" is a modifyd file.
Mayby this should go:
- get the original ppd file. (? https://www.kyoceradocumentsolutions.eu … _.EN.html)
- open "http://localhost:631"
- choose the printer
- "Maintenance / Modify Printer"
- ...
- "Or Provide a PPD File:"; load ppd file
another option:
pacman -S foomatic-db-gutenprint-ppds
select a file from a similar model (/usr/share/cups/model/gutenprint/5.2/Global/)
replace file with the file in directory /etc/cups/ppd/ (Don't forget gunzip).
restart cups

i did your second option blend with the first one and it is working great!
i installed foomatic-db-gutenprint-ppds
then i search for my model (pixma mx320) in /usr/share/cups/model/gutenprint/5.2/Global/
and found "stp-bjc-MX320-series.5.2.sim.ppd"
then i copied this file to /etc/cups/ppd
gunzip it.
then i get in the browser to localhost:631 -> administration -> manage printers
and then choosing the printer already installed before (and stoped working).
click the drop down menu where it is written "Administration" and then click modify printer.
then i move next in the settings till i have the option: "Or Provide a PPD File"
there i chose the files i copied before to /etc/cups/ppd.
apply it and now i can print again :-)
thank you very much!!!
