BubblesWM (a window manager for the floating minimalists)

Bubbles appeared from the need for a floating WM that does VERY little and wasn't painful to configure.

It's quite obstinate, tiny and simple. Written in plain C and having only two mandatory dependencies: libconfig and libx11.

Keybindings are central (e.g. the "run or raise" concept).

It is the result of having tested most DE's and WM's out there and having lived with AwesomeWM, DWM + simpleswitcher. Openbox... (eternal list) for several years at the time.

Curious? I'd love some feedback!

AUR bubbleswm-git package

The README and config file will give you the full idea.

Re: BubblesWM (a window manager for the floating minimalists)

As a bubbles user, I can recommend it for those who like simplicity, hotkeys and some customization.
I needed some time to configure the hotkeys and actions.
Even as plain and simple as it is, I don't use all it's functionality (compass, temporal bindings)

After getting use to I now love the agility of "run or raise".

Why is Xinerama a hard dependency?  I do not use multiple monitors per station...
EDIT: I would prefer greater minimalism less Xinerama and without libconfig (if possible)...

Interesting. I am always happy to see new window managers.

Well, since you asked, I think some day you will be sorry there are no comments in your code. http://catb.org/esr/writings/unix-koans/prodigy.html

README wrote:

Add to your ~/.xinitrc the following:

exec dbus-launch bubbles

Is dbus-launch really required?

libconfig was a decision based on how much trouble it saved me and it's a really small dependency,
mainly: didn't have to write my own config parser.  But if you have any super fancy suggestions, for all means,
lets hear it! One less dependency always sounds great.

Xinerama was something I always considered. I have always used two monitors and
it's a dependency for even GTK and xorg-utils.

Again, one less dependency always sounds great.

Let me fiddle with these ideas and I'll get back to you. Cheers!

Did you try it? Do you like it? smile

I knew that was going to bite me... just never thought it would be so soon!
Since you looked at the code (possible without comments?), feedback even more welcome. It's my first C "full" project.

No, but it saves a lot of questions and behaviours that I think most users expect. I'll edit the README.

Cheers!
