Everytime I run gnome apps on XFCE4 the preferences option, usually hidden under the "hamburger" menu -- its not there; however, When I run gnome-shell, it's there when I disable "Show Application Menu" in the gnome-tweak-tool... This is really bugging me and it's killing my productivity, all the help is greatly appreciated

For that special case of Nautilus even on Gnome I see no settings menu if I disable the application menu. In general this depends on the application how it handles this. I would check whether this works with other apps that are known to handle the situation. In my testing most core Gnome apps (Nautilus, Terminal and Calculator are the ones I use) I tried all did failed to provide an alternative. Rhythmbox did provide a menu bar as fallback, and Terminix as a third party app handles it nicely.
IMHO it is a pity and bugs should be filed against the apps that do not provide a fallback, but I can imagine this is somewhat intentional? Just strange that the tweak tools provide an option to disable the app menu then.

I found something for Nautilus: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=777268
Looks like the Window decorations should include the menu button, as this is used as an replacement. Cold this fix the issue for you?
I handle this in one of my own apps programatically by forcing the menu button to appear if it is not configured. IMHO this is preferable, as the use might have good reason to disable the menu button in general, but in cases like this it should be visible anyway ![]()
