Hello,
I am having an issue with font rendering in all applications where monospace fonts like Hack are jagged. I recently upgraded from Debian 8 to Archlinux, it was working well on Debian 8 (example screenshot with the font I usually use, which is proprietary). Another screenshot with Hack being used. I am using Plasma 5 with X11.
Versions:
xorg-server 1.19.1-1
xf86-video-ati 1:7.8.99.r23.gd611d21d-1
plasma-desktop 5.8.5-1
fontconfig 2.12.1-4
freetype2 2.7.1-1~/.fonts.conf:

70-yes-bitmaps.conf
80-delicious.conf
90-synthetic.conf(I assume these files + ~/.fonts.conf is not changing much on fonts not having anti-aliasing applied, though.)
Thanks for any help.

The problem (assuming you're after a more antialiased, smoother font?) is probably hintfull.

seth: Unfortunately I tried all the hinting styles and the font rendering was not changed. I am after getting the same result that I used to have on my debian box that can be seen in this screenshot; this proprietary font is optimized to not have anti-aliasing applied, however the issue is happening with a "regular" font like Hack as well so it's not the font.

~/.fonts.conf
Arch doesn't honour that file, use $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/.fontconfig/fonts.conf instead.

Thanks, I moved the file, however the issue remains. I tried all hint modes and disabling hinting with this new file.

That seems to have solved my issue, thanks a lot! I'm not sure whether this is actually what fixed it, since I couldn't log out/log in at the moment I tried, but after a reboot the font now looks good.
