Audio out of sync -bluetooth, web browser

I have a stereo I connect to with bluetooth for sound.  If I use vlc or lxmusic I have no problem.  However when I play a youtube video the sound will skip here and there and get out of sync.  If I route the sound from my browser to my laptop speakers or use HDMI to go to a second monitor/tv it is fine.

So the only time the problem occurs is when a web browser is used with bluetooth.

I have tried many web browsers, all with the same issue.  I have pulseaudio and am using LXDE.

I have a BT speaker column and occasionally have had an audio latency problem such as you are experiencing, especially when using laptop speakers in conjunction with the BT device. I use pavucontrol to adjust that audio latency. It works well for me. YMMV

Thanks, that makes it acceptable to watch web videos.  I still wonder what the cause is though; only happens with the browser and bluetooth being used simultaneously.

Re: Audio out of sync -bluetooth, web browser

Browsers often unconditionally ask for a lower latency than necessary and while keeping this latency up is no problem for physically attached hardware it's borderline impossible for Bluetooth to live up to that expectation. With the latency knobs you forcefully add a certain latency regardless of what the input program asks for.  (use

pacmd list-sink-inputs

to see the latency the program requests and the latency the stream is actually getting after you fiddled with those knobs)

So I switched from wireless to wired for my connection.  Now the sound is in sync and there's no more stuttering.

Re: Audio out of sync -bluetooth, web browser

My simple solution to this issue (which may not apply to now seeing as you've gone wired) was to use Pulseaudio's "Latency offset" functionality. I ran the following 60fps YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjAa0wOe5k4 and slowed down playback with MPV until I got the sync spot on. 400ms was perfect for me and it took a while to find what was right. In pavucontrol, latency offset is under Output Devices > (Device) > Advanced.

I've tested both playback through MPV and playback through Firefox (Youtube) and it's spot on. Perfectly in sync.

Update: I just realised this solution has already been offered above. My bad. Sorry for the necrobump.
