I just received my refurbished T440s yesterday and installed Arch and most things are working great, but whenever the screen turns off I am unable to 'wake' the computer up again. This happens whenever I leave the computer for a few minutes, or whenever I turn it off manually with 'xset dpms force off'.
According to the wiki, the backlight should turn back on after 'xset dpms force off' just by moving the mouse or pressing any key, but I've tried every key on the laptop and the only thing I can do is hold the power button until it turns off, and then reboot.
This has been happening before and after installing tlp. I haven't installed anything else related to the screen or power management yet.
I've been unable to find anything by searching the web, so any help would be much apprectiated.

Have you read https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Di … _Signaling
It says to use "sleep 1; xset dpms force off"
Also you could try "xset dpms force standby" or "xset dpms force suspend"
Apparently xfce4-power-manager interferes with dpms if that is of any use

Yes I've read that, and I did prepend the command with 'sleep 1;'. The laptop still becomes unresponsive with any of standby, suspend, or off.
