Re: [Solved]KMail 5.4.0: "KMail Mail Folder" not working, akonadi crashing

i had to add my pop account again as well, but just adding accounts shouldn't be any problem with pop and imap i guess? Local mail is stored in another folder that is not related with akonadi anyway.

Local Mail is an akonadi resource like all other sources, too. You can check for it using the akonadi console.

Re: [Solved]KMail 5.4.0: "KMail Mail Folder" not working, akonadi crashing

what i meant with not related is that its not in the ~/.config/akonadi* folders nor in the .local/share/akonadi* so it is not going to be deleted and can be restored easily as well.

Re: [Solved]KMail 5.4.0: "KMail Mail Folder" not working, akonadi crashing

@elch0r: how many mails do you have in your maildir account roundabout?
My maildir has ca 3.000 Mails and is stored in a separate custom folder in my home-account.

I deleted all Akonadi related files several times, it did not solve the problem. Last try was about a month ago. Maybe the problem is solved? Setting up a new POP3-Account of course is not a major thing, but still annoying. Since I did it already several times I thought I would give it only another try when somebody reports, that the bug is fixed....

Migrate to Evolution (like HarveyK) or thunderbird (which apparently has implemented maildir-format only as experimantal) is not a good option for me...

I have about 500 mails stored, i'm deleting the old ones from time to time.
Maybe size, after all, matters?

I have two local maildir based locations/"connections":
- one for archiving holding actually ~50.000
- an "actual" one containing ~16.000

Re: [Solved]KMail 5.4.0: "KMail Mail Folder" not working, akonadi crashing

I had a similar problem since the update. Specifically, every time I opened kmail, it got stuck trying to update the "outbox" folder. I had to restart akonadi to temporarily fix the problem. Sometimes it also randomly crashed.
Using akonadiconsole, I realised that the "outbox" folder had something wrong: akonadiconsole reported 5 mails in that folder, even if the total size was 0.

I solved the problem removing "outbox" from akonadiconsole. It was automatically re-created and now it seems to work correctly. Hope this can help.

Looks like today's update to kmail/akonadi 16.12.2-1 (KMail 5.4.2) solves the original issue of not being able to access maildir resources. Just when I was ready to completely switch to Evolution :-) Will do some more testing on a second machine before I rejoice too early...

No, it's nor solved. It's partially working for some subfolders of the existing resource, but adding the maildir folder as new still results in a completely empty one (without any error messages, as far as I can tell).

Re: [Solved]KMail 5.4.0: "KMail Mail Folder" not working, akonadi crashing

Thanks to the post 2 days ago for the first time since a few weeks I tired it again today and just added my old maildir-Folder as as local KMail folder... and it works!!!
@ HarveyK: Luckily I did not read your post from today, otherwise I would have been discouraged ;-)... anyway I hope I will not run into problems with similar effects in the next days. But for me it seems like the bug is fixed. I will report again in a few days, if everything is still fine. Hopefully you also find a solution that works HarveyK...

@jstammi: thanks for the information: means maildir can handle with such an amount of mails. Is the bug fixed for you as well? What are your proceedings?

Re: [Solved]KMail 5.4.0: "KMail Mail Folder" not working, akonadi crashing

Ok, if I delete and re-enable my existing folder structure as "Maildir", it does not work (shows neither items nor subfolders). If I re-enable it as "KMail Mail Folder", all is well!

Looks like the latest update really fixed my issue, great!
