Nautilus Icon Spacing

I've been wanting to change my icon spacing on my desktop for a while now and I looked everywhere for a solution.. but there is none

I'm pretty sure this is not possible unless you recomiple nautilus and change some of the code.. is this really true.. if so.. ill probably make a new pkgbuild in aur for this version of nautilus or something if someone can make a patch wink

Thanks
Andrey

Re: Nautilus Icon Spacing

Have you checked the gconf settings? I don't know if there's an option there, but if it's not in nautilus' preferences, this is the only other place it would be.

Re: Nautilus Icon Spacing

Are they alligned to some kind of a grid?? I only run Gnome on my Slack box and maybe I'm not understanding, but I can move the desktop icons anywhere from right next to each other, or encircling one another, or whatever. Are you saying that they are can't be spaced differently from a certain setting?

Re: Nautilus Icon Spacing

Yes, you can change icons spacing. Go to Edit - prefences and tick "use compact layout" smile

Well my friend, that does happen to change the icon spacing, but I think he's looking for more of a "custom" spacing.

Re: Nautilus Icon Spacing

yeah i need custom spacing cause the vertical spacing is wayy too big and the icons either are too far from the right side of the screen or off the screen :-

heres a screenshot.. i put the icons as close to the edge as i could before they would go off the screen :-.. there is a approx 30pixel difference (50px from the left, 80px from the right).. which is very noticble for me..

Re: Nautilus Icon Spacing

Well, it definitely can be done. See the screenshot below. I just randomly scattered a few icons and placed a couple on the edge of the visible screen. I did also notice that the icon text has no bearing on the matter. If I were to place the "Computer" icon right along the side the text would get cut off, and the icon would align just like the others.
