[solved] external monitor driver workflow

I have a basic question: suppose I have a laptop running standard Arch Linux, and want to plug an external monitor, and handle it say using xrandr via HDMI cable.
What are the drivers I should make sure that are present, in order for this to succeed? in particular, I guess the kernel has driver for the GPU (possibly integrated; I'm assuming laptop screen works fine), but then in order to function properly does this driver (or a separate one) need to know specific info about the monitor (or external TV)? are such data provided by vendor, ideally? how to make sure, before I buy such thing?

Re: [solved] external monitor driver workflow

No special drivers needed. You just need to install video card drivers and configure xrandr.
