I got tired of lame video codecs (wmv and flv) and wrote a bash script to mass convert these to x264 in an mp4 container. The script honors the source file's bitrates (audio/video) which results in nearly identical file sizes when complete. It also works recursively and replaces the original file's date-time-stamp. Have a look if this is something you find yourself doing as well.
