[SOLVED] auto login problem, stuck trying to log in as wrong username

Hey guys, I just made a pretty stupid mistake and now I'm trying to figure out how to fix it.

I followed the instructions for automatically logging in found here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Getty
and tested in in virtualbox to make sure it would all work okay but when I went to repeat the steps on my actual machine I forgot to change the username from "username" and now when I turn on my computer it's stuck trying to log in as a user that doesn't exist.
Is there a way to cancel it somehow so I can log in as another username (a user that actually exists)?

Change to a different tty, login there, and then fix the mistake.
