Hi przhevalskoye, it seems you were under some misconceptions when you installed Arch Anywhere over Arch proper. It's good that you overcame these and challenged yourself to install Arch.

I'm from India.

This is the very first time I'm using any linux. After going through many articles online I was confused wheather to go for ubuntu as a beginer or go with building my own system. Than I decided to go for  Arch, thinking it will be fun to learn. After reading articles for a week, I went for arch installation ( with full disk encryption). And then there was this installation error , tried looking for online help but couldn't find any. Then I came to this forum and tried registering not to mention thanks for the captcha .  Finally I have installed the arch linux.

Love this forum ...   looking forward to learn a lot more.

At age 91 and with no computer science training, I have happily been using ARCH (with Openbox) for 3 1/2 years on a rather ancient HPCompaq laptop.  This was only possible because of the highly logical instructions covering many aspects and because of initial help from this great forum.  Despite a suggestion from Trilby that I was not sufficiently competent, it has worked out well anyway.  Couldn't be more delighted with everything ARCH.
Like some above, I also use Debian stable (with Openbox) -- mainly for essential business records and email.  Gave up on Windows years ago.

Hi,

I am a very long time Slackware and OpenBSD user.
I have decided to give arch a try and have installed it on my main laptop since some days (/home and /swap luks crypted).
KDE Plasma is running without any issues and I am having fun learning this new OS

Despite a suggestion from Trilby that I was not sufficiently competent, it has worked out well anyway.  Couldn't be more delighted with everything ARCH.

I'm happy to be proven wrong.  I had to look through some post history for this - and I certainly did one time make that suggestion*, but not in a demeaning way, simply a matter of fact: you've had more than your fair share of struggles getting your arch system together, and while I'm happy to see people overcome challenges, it is practical to sometimes suggest they take on a more bite-sized challenges first and build up to their intended goal.

(* I've more frequently expressed doubt about whether you actually had an archlinux install vs a derivative / off-shoot like archbang).

I would never have guessed your age as it is.  I can only hope that I am half as skilled with the technology of the day when I am your age - hell, I'd even hope just to live to be your age.  That (the former skill) can be taken as a sincere compliment.  However, on the flip side, while I do value the notion of respecting ones elders, I also believe that holding one to comparable standards as everyone else in an online forum is a form of respect.  And so I may still pester you about things in your posts that don't add up

Hi, Albert and welcome to the forums. When I first started using Arch, I installed it in VirtualBox on a laptop. A couple of laptops, really. It worked so well that I installed it on an old PC that had a decent CPU speed but only 1Gb RAM. For the PC, I chose the OpenBox desktop which is pretty light weight. The speed improvement at start up was so good that I was encouraged to install it on "bare metal" on a laptop, no virtual machine.

You are right. Arch shines on old machines (and on newer ones), but I think it depends on which desktop you choose. Arch forces you to choose what to install, unlike other popular linux distros, which come with a lot of stuff you may never use. Loading all that extra stuff slows down start up times.

Your English seems fine, probably better than mine, and it's the only language I speak.

Welcome to the forums, r0b3rt. I looked for your other post, and I'm sorry I can't help you with that because I don't use KDE. Anyone who can help you will probably ask you for a lot more info about your setup.

Hey guys. I'm Robert, I'm 20 years old and I live in the Netherlands. Some time ago a friend of mine recommended Arch to me (before that I used Ubuntu). It took about a month to finally get it installed (bye Windows ), but wow, it's worth it!

Although this probably goes without saying: Arch is beautiful. It's fast. It's reliable. Customizing Arch is awesome, because unlike Ubuntu, Arch allows you to do whatever you want. But even better: I finally have a reason to brag, hehe.

Hi Robert, Welcome Aboard. Arch is a little like LEGOs. Somebody - a lot of somebodies - made all the pieces for you to assemble any way you want. Complex or simple. I like my Arches simple and fast.
