SOLVED - Unable to find LSI controller

EDIT:  It appears 1 of the pins on a connector on the card was bent shorting with an adjacent pin.  After pulling it out and examining the card I noticed the pin and bent it straight.  I plugged the card back in and it magically appeared on boot and in the lspci list.   Lesson learned, inspect your hardware carefully if you're having problems.

I have a new LSI 9207-8i controller I am wanting to use to create a zfs array on my system.  I'm not sure if this is a hardware, driver, or arch issue so I'm wondering if anyone has any guidance.

(It's a SAS HBA card, NOT a raid controller)

I currently have 2 pci-e slots open on my system which is a MSI X99 board with an i7-5960x in it.  I have 2 video cards installed but I know there are still plenty of lanes left to allocate.

if I check lspci I'm not seeing the controller anywhere but I am seeing all of the other hardware.

Does anyone have any experience with these?
