I had to install pulseaudio because firefox recently made it a hard requirement (which I am not happy about).
Playback with my laptop speakers works okay, but to get any sound from my headphone jack, I now need *both* the headphone and speaker channel in alsamixer to be unmuted. Turning down the speaker volume to zero helps, but there is still a little sound coming from the speakers.
Is there any way to use the headphone jack without the speaker channel being unmuted? This all worked fine without pulseaudio...
EDIT: Plugging and unplugging my headphones a few times seems to have resolved this. I still dislike pulseaudio..
