[Solved] Audio issues?!

Hi all,

I'm at a loss!
I recently took the leap and replaced Windows with Arch. I got everything working on an old hard drive before doing a fresh install onto my main SSD.

I cannot get audio set up mad

Previously (last week) I got it to work after spending a few hours messing around with PulseAudio, pavucontrol and alsamixer but now I can't seem to get anywhere. I have scoured the forums for a solution but I feel I'm just making things worse.
I'm using the optical audio port on my Asrock Z77 extreme motherboard.

- Everything is unmuted with alsamixer.
- I get no sound whatsoever using speaker-test on any channel
- I am in the audio group
- I have removed the ~/.asoundrc file to start from fresh

Currently I have alsa-utils installed.

[dan@daniel-arch ~]$ pacman -Q alsa-utils alsa-lib
alsa-utils 1.1.3-2
alsa-lib 1.1.3-1

aplay -l:

cat /proc/asound/card:

Please tell me I'm just being stupid and that I've missed something so simple!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Please shout at me if I've missed any crucial information - my brain has been fried.

Thank you,
Dan

Re: [Solved] Audio issues?!

1. Have you got 'pulseaudio-alsa'
2. play some audio/video, open pavucontrol and check different setting, especially what is selected in default output and the output selected for audio player.
3. If you haven't check archwiki pages of pulseaudio.

Re: [Solved] Audio issues?!

If the above advice isn't already enough to solve the problem, post, while attempting to play something

sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*
aplay -L
pacmd list-cards
pacmd list-sinks
pacmd list-sink-inputs

Re: [Solved] Audio issues?!

Thanks for the replies!
Honestly not sure whats happened because I've not changed anything since starting this thread, but audio seems to have fixed its self over night...

One odd thing is my headset's inline audio control has 2 controls; one for audio coming from an Xbox control (2.5mm jack) and one for audio coming from a PC (optical/USB).
The volume controls seem to have swapped around !

Well if its working I shan't attempt to change anything!

Thanks a lot for your suggestions,
Dan
