HP ZBook eSATA ExpressCard not recognized

I have a Marvell ExpressCard (ECESAT32), I can't seem to get recognized. The ZBook is the ZBook 17 (pre "G" series). It has an ExpressCard slot, which I've tried setting to v1 and v2 in the BIOS, without success.

The card itself does power up (lights come on). I know it works, as it runs just fine on an older EliteBook 8730w (in both LTS and latest kernel - live booting ArchLinux on both laptops).

The drivers it uses are ahci, pata_marvell (the latter loaded manually on the ZBook). It also uses the built in pciehp driver, which is in the kernel message log after startup on the ZBook.

Has anyone had similar problems with this and found a solution?
