[SOLVED] On boot interspersed with boot messages

Hi

I have recently re-installed several linux systems on an older laptop. Even though they all boot fine via grub2,  I have noticed that on booting they all display

^[[3~

repeatedly interspersed with the boot messages. I had a similar number of systems installed before, but decided to completly wipe the disk and reinstall them.

Prior to wiping the disk I never had this showing. Can anyone tell me what this means?
