Redshift stopped working, stuck on using method `randr'

Hi, everybody, I installed redshift as the wiki suggests and it worked good. After rebooting the pc, it stopped adjusting the color temperature but it didn't gave me any error.
Starting the service with systemctl status --user redshift i get:

redshift.service - Redshift display colour temperature adjustment
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/user/redshift.service; disabled; vendor preset: enabled)

that's my geoclue.conf file

I'm not using any redshift.conf file at the moment, but i tryed to use the one in the wiki and after changing the screen from 1 to 0, redshift has stopped on "Started Redshift display colour temperature adjustment."

Are you using Gnome? If yes, then are you using this package: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/gnom … ative-git/

I tryed to install it using yaourt but it returns "make: *** [Makefile:515: install-recursive] Error 1". I cloned the repository and i run the make-zip.sh as indicated, but now I do not know how to preceed.

Re: Redshift stopped working, stuck on using method `randr'

It sounds like you're not using makepkg, that's not a good idea. Use makepkg, and if you still have trouble, post the full output, not just the last line of the error.

Re: Redshift stopped working, stuck on using method `randr'

OK, installed using makepkg -si and solved the dependency problems. But redshift, still does not work. It shows the same problem.

Did you patch gnome-settings and configure the extension?

I'm sorry for the delay in replying. Anyway my laptop stopped working, so i tried the hd in another laptop and redshift worked properly. Maybe it was an hardware problem.

Does the other laptop have an intel chips, so gnome runs on xorg rather than on wayland? ...

Yes, I'm using an intel chipset with xorg now.

Re: Redshift stopped working, stuck on using method `randr'

sorry, my brains must have been on vacation when writing comment #8 - the idea was that your present notebook had an *nvidia* GPU, thus you're not running gnome on wayland *now* but were before (and therefore had the trouble)

anyway, you can check

loginctl session-status

to see whether you're presently on xorg or wayland (and if on xorg, try to switch to wayland and see whether the problem returns, so you at least got an explanation on its reason)

Re: Redshift stopped working, stuck on using method `randr'

I am not sure I understand the comment, anyway I do not know if the old laptop (whose motherboard is broken) used xorg or wayland and it did not have a dedicated gpu. Now I'm using a lenovo g500 with an AMD gpu and redshift works well.
Checking on the lenovo the output of

loginctl session-status

is

Could not get properties: No such device or address

But using

loginctl

to get the session number and then

loginctl show-session <YOUR_NUMBER> -p Type

I get

 Type=x11

So I'm using xorg.

Re: Redshift stopped working, stuck on using method `randr'

If you are using GNOME then perhaps best to gnome-shell-extension-redshift-native-git from the AUR which will automatically install the modified gnome-settings-daemon, starts automatically, has a simple GUI, etc and works with both Xorg and Wayland. Check the wiki. That's what I use (on Wayland) and it works well.

Re: Redshift stopped working, stuck on using method `randr'

Not a real answer to your question, but Gnome 3.24 will include similar functionality directly. They call it "Night light", see e.g. http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2017/02/gnom … lter-linux

Given that the release of Gnome 3.24 is in a couple of days and it will surely hit the Arch repositories in the next weeks it maybe is worth waiting for that and see if their implementation works fine instead of wasting too much time now smile
