AMD-Vi completion-wait loop timed out?

Hello everyone, I'm new here and I'm trying to install arch but the error of the title doesn't help me. I saw on Internet disabling IOMMU resolve the issue but my BIOS doesn't show the option perhaps for being an AMD APU. I don't know if I have to modify kernel, do a command or something like that. Thanks in advance:)

Specs HP-Pavilion 15-aw002la:
AMD A10-9600P
16 GB of RAM
Radeon R5 Graphics (Dedicated R7 M340)

Re: AMD-Vi completion-wait loop timed out?

This sounds like your system may have  a buggy uefi/bios firmware .
Are you running the latest version ( F23 rev A , oct 2016 according to hp support site ) ?

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

Re: AMD-Vi completion-wait loop timed out?

Same problem here with an ACER Aspire E15  model nr E5-553G-T2L7 bougt only two months ago, using Arch install disk 01, 02 and 03/2017
AMD A10-9600P
8Gb ram
Radeon R8
M2 ssd 128G
1T spinning disk
Bios updated to 1.13

Tried arch, archboot, architect, debian, fedora, SuSe - to no avail; I get hundreds of errors , the latest in the list being a whole series of "AMD-Vi completion-wait loop timed out"
iommu trick not possible as in first post

Any idea what is happening?

Thank you for answer.

Ok guys, solved. I discovered if you enable legacy support on bios and boot your flash drive on UEFI works without problems (make sure have disabled virtualization). I had been with the problem around one week. thanks for your replies, grettings.

Re: AMD-Vi completion-wait loop timed out?

I have been able to boot under uefi-boot. You should give the bootargument : "amd_iommu=off"
This made it work for me.
See : https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Kernel_parameters

That basically disables virtualization so is what cynicalsx mentioned.

I do think disabling that is a bad idea unless you want to run a 32 bit linux .
On AMD 64-bit processor systems IOMMU capabilities are necessary for many things.

It seems buggy UEFI firmware still reigns supreme.

Re: AMD-Vi completion-wait loop timed out?

I just have the same issue with a HP Pavilon G153NH. However I would like to install Kubuntu or a Fedora - but the issue is the same for the both of them, as above.
I already made a bios update, but looks like nothing is changed regarding this.
I tried every combination of Legacy mode and Virtualization, combined with "amd_iommu=off", but still, I am unable to start a Live USB. I also tried netinstall - installation was made and looked fine, but after starting up the installed OS, it died as the live USB.

So, if any of you have any other idea, what still can be done, please share, I found close to nothing regarding this issue - except this thread. However, I'm about to think, that HP messed up something.

Re: AMD-Vi completion-wait loop timed out?

Hi everybody. I'am from Colombia, so my english is bad. smile

My laptop is HP aw002la. AMD A10 and 16GB RAM.

I have the same problem "AMD-Vi completion wait loop timed-out" and i believe that the problem is because the Linux Kernel 4 with AMD chips. If you install any version of Linux wich use Linux Kernel 4, you will have the problem. I don't know when the incompatibility will be solved, but if you need work in Linux with AMD, install a Linux distro with Kernel 3 (any release).

The distros tested are (With incompatibility):
Fedora 26 (Kernel 4.12)
Debian 9 (Kernel 4.10)
Arch Linux Current Release: 2017.09.01 (Kernel 4.12)
Ubuntu Server 17.04 (Kernel 4.10)
Elementary OS (Ubuntu 16.04 based, with Kernel 4.4)

Now i'am using Debian 8 (Kernel 3.16) and Centos 7.3 (Kernel 3.10) in my computer, and works perfect.

Note:
Also let me tell you: Probably the BIOS update F27 is implicated (Off course, in my laptop). But the problem still remaining with the Kernel compatibility. Originally, my laptop BIOS firmware was F23, and Debian 9 worked some time. However, the others distros  mentioned don't worked. Later, I installed the BIOS F27 update, and Debian 9 stopped working.

In summary, install a distro with Kernel 3.xx, because Kernel 4.xx crashes with AMD until new notice. smile
