i tried the one in the repositories, as well as compiling it with ABS (and optimizing for K7 and turning SMP off).
the kernel loads, and messages start spewing on the screen as usual, and it freezes on the following line.
Initializing Cryptographic API
io scheduler noop registered
io scheduler anticipatory registered
and my computer freezes there. i need to do a hard reboot to get control back.
my grub entry is:
root /boot/vmlinuz26archck root=/dev/hda7 ro video=vesafb:1024x768-32@70
initrd /boot/initramfs-2.6.15-archck.img
any ideas? thanks!

Ok, to fix this, can we please use the package i have released?
Then, what version of it do you have? Make sure you have 2.6.15-archck2-4
Can you give me a few lines before those three, sometimes error messages get washed back.
Also, try adding acpi=off to your boot and see if that works.

with acpi on...
ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LNKC] enabled at IRQ 10
PCI: setting IRQ 10 as level-triggered
ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:00:0a.0[A] -> Link [LNKC] -> GSI 10 (level, low) -> IRQ 10
apm: BIOS version 1.2 Flags 0x03 (Driver version 1.16ac)
apm: overridden by ACPI
VFS: Disk quotas dquot_6.5.1
Dquot-cache hash table entries: 1024 (order 0, 4096 bytes)
Installing knfsd (copyright (C) 1996 okir@monad.swb.de).
adding acpi=off to my grub entry doesn't fix the problem.
i'm using the version you suggested.

also, i seem to get weird wrapping artifacts...like i would have something like this...
sdkfjskdjfklsajdfkljdflkjdf lsadjflksjadfklsajdfklsjdflkjdsalkfj sldafjlsdkjfkldsjflksjadflkj asldfjsldkjflksdjflkdsjflksdj saldjflksjfkldsfj
(where the lksdjfkjfdsafd is actual messages)

try giving mkinitcpio a go from [testing].
Offline
same problem happens with mkinitcpio using (base udev autodetect ide), which is the same config as for the stock kernel
