microphone problems

Hello,

I am using a laptop that has multiple build in microphones (I believe 2, maybe 3). I probably run the out of the box configuration of alsa and pulseaudio. The microphone is working, though its quality seems not good and echo is a problem. (I have not tested this in detail)

However when I do plug headphones (that do not have a microphone) into the audio connector the internal microphone does no longer work. How can I fix that?
I can no longer choose it in gnome audio settings (or alsamixer). (My only choice for input is "Microphone - internal audio" when headphones are plugged in and "Internal microphone - internal audio" when unplugged). What I noticed is that when I start the laptop with headphones plugged in from the start it seems to use the internal microphone as it should (until I unplug and plugin again).

I tried the first 2 things from the microphone section of https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pu … microphone
In the second one (alsamixer) I simply did not find the internal microphone to choose from. In the first one I had a strange noise on bootup and undid it as quickly as I could. (probably made a mistake)

About the echo: In some other article I copied some lines to /etc/pulseaudio/defaul.pa that load an anti echo module to pulseaudio. I reversed it as well because my indicator lights did not work with it (mute) and it added anti echo entry in audio output as well and it was clear when I was using what entries.

Re: microphone problems

Can you post

pacmd list-sinks
pacmd list-sources

while having the headset plugged in and therefore not being able to use the internal microphone?

Re: microphone problems

Please use [ code ] tags when pasting command output. Is this a combined mic/headphone jack I assume? There's a chance that this is hardcoded in hardware. Does the following work and let you use the headphone's and the laptop mic

pacmd set-source-port alsa_input.pci-0000_00_1f.3.analog-stereo analog-input-internal-mic

if it does you might be able to write a script to react to the jack-change event and execute that command. If that doesn't work can you post

amixer -c0

as well?
