Scroll wheel speed

I'm using Gnome Shell with X11 and libinput and I'm trying to adjust my scroll wheel speed. It supposedly is adjustable through udev's hwdb, but I tried a few different rules and none of them applied to my mouse. The rule I tried is:

# Razer Naga Epic Chroma
mouse:usb:v1532p003f:name:*:
 MOUSE_DPI=1300@1000 *1600@1000
 MOUSE_WHEEL_CLICK_ANGLE=120

I tried multiple variations of this, with only the name set, only the vid and pid set and both of them. I know the angle is an extreme value but I set it so I can test it really doesn't work, and there is no difference with the rule above set and without.

Re: Scroll wheel speed

Yeah, that's just how it is. The mouse wheel sends events like the mouse buttons do. The steps of the mouse wheel are like clicks. Each program then decides what those events mean for it. You need to look at the configuration of your programs to change what the wheel does, like somewhere in KDE you have a setting how many lines of text should be scrolled per step of the mouse wheel, and this will then change what KDE's text editor and its file browser etc. do with the wheel events. In Firefox there's a setting "mousewheel.min_line_scroll_amount" in about:config that you can tweak to make it scroll more or less. In Google Chrome you need to see if you can find an extension that changes scrolling.

That wheel-click-angle setting you are looking at is something that libinput uses internally. I don't know if there are any programs that do something special with it and that react to changes.

Re: Scroll wheel speed

I was hoping I could avoid using any sort of extensions to add such a basic functionality (I'm using Chrome).

From what I've seen this was reported 5 years ago already:
https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/is … ?id=167197

There was an option to change the amount of pixels scrolled with each click:
https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/is … ?id=154776
But they decided to remove that. Why they did it I will never understand.
