[(SORT OF) SOLVED]No fullscreen resolution available

Today I've made an update on a box running arch. I'm doing it on a regular basis, once in a month.
There were some updates related to xorg, the intel driver - which is actually the gfx driver for the box.

Since the update, my resolution  is limited to a maximum of 1280x800, instead of 1280x1024, and not scaled, but with a 224 pixel wide black strip at the bottom of the screen.
The machine is running only as a media center (kodi), but interestingly, the limitation affects also my ttys.

The machine has early kms enabled (MODULES ... i915 ...) but I've tried to disable it, remove the xf86-video-intel driver, nothing helped yet.

The possible resolutions listed by kodi are 1280x800, 800x600, 640x480.

Fun.

A clue someone?

Re: [(SORT OF) SOLVED]No fullscreen resolution available

Is kodi running on top of X11 or directly in the framebuffer? In case of x11, what's the output of "xrandr -q" and your xor log?

Kodi's running via the kodi-standalone service, which is basically a launch with xinit, so it runs on top of X.
Anyway, as I said, the ttys are also affected, so I don't think it is an X related problem. Anyway, in a short time I will find some logs for you.

Re: [(SORT OF) SOLVED]No fullscreen resolution available

Well, here are some interesting lines from my Xorg.log - as unfortunately I don't see any errors.

when I'm looking for that strange resolution:

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep 1280x800

[ 43.001] (II) intel(0): Modeline "1280x800"x58.0 68.90 1280 1292 1340 1440 800 804 807 823 -hsync -vsync (47.8 kHz P)
[ 43.054] (II) intel(0): Output LVDS1 using initial mode 1280x800 +0+0
[ 43.313] (II) intel(0): switch to mode 1280x800@58.0 on LVDS1 using pipe 1, position (0, 0), rotation normal, reflection none
[ 78.144] (II) intel(0): switch to mode 1280x800@58.1 on LVDS1 using pipe 1, position (0, 0), rotation normal, reflection none
[ 134.355] (II) intel(0): switch to mode 1280x800@58.1 on LVDS1 using pipe 1, position (0, 0), rotation normal, reflection none

and

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep 1280x1024

[ 42.981] (**) intel(0): Option "PreferredMode" "1280x1024"
[ 43.052] (II) intel(0): 1280x1024@75Hz
[ 43.053] (II) intel(0): Modeline "1280x1024"x60.0 108.00 1280 1328 1440 1688 1024 1025 1028 1066 +hsync +vsync (64.0 kHz UeP)
[ 43.054] (II) intel(0): Modeline "1280x1024"x75.0 135.00 1280 1296 1440 1688 1024 1025 1028 1066 +hsync +vsync (80.0 kHz e)
[ 43.054] (II) intel(0): Output VGA1 using initial mode 1280x1024 +0+0
[ 43.307] (II) intel(0): switch to mode 1280x1024@60.0 on VGA1 using pipe 0, position (0, 0), rotation normal, reflection none

As far as I see, but I might be wrong, VGA1 has the right resolution but not LVDS1, which is, with intel normally a laptop monitor.
Tell me, if I'm wrong.
And it still does not explain for tty...

Re: [(SORT OF) SOLVED]No fullscreen resolution available

added this tho the kernel command line in grub:

video=LVDS-1:d video=VGA-1:e

which disables permanently the LVDS1 screen and enables the analogue VGA1 screen, and it worked for X and the tty also

Still interesting.
As usual: workaround found, problem not fixed.

Re: [(SORT OF) SOLVED]No fullscreen resolution available

Why are there LVDS and VGA anyway?
Is it sufficient to :e or big_smile the VGA-1 output?

Could you still please share the entire data (ie. the full log and the xrandr -q output)? - I mean from the non-working setup.
And possibly also "lspci" (ie. is this a hybrid or optimus system?)
